Priorities
Building a livable community in the heart of the city —
- Job creation: insuring sustainable growth and living wages by attracting high tech, cultural, and environmental jobs to Columbia and the First Ward at all skill levels.
- Innovative housing solutions: encouraging mixed-income neighborhoods (mixed-income apartments, improved public housing options).
- Better youth services: working with First Ward youth and youth advocates on innovative ways to use their creativity and skills.
- Strengthening and creating environmental ordinances to better insure sustainable growth.
- Encouraging comprehensive planning: developing a new urbanism to enhance Columbia's quality of life.
Improving public services and safety —
- Increase city attention to sidewalks, schools, streets, and parks.
- Improved services: code enforcement, tenant rights, mass transit (more convenient routes with smaller buses), strengthening and expanding programs to help reduce energy bills.
- Improved police protection and accountability.
- Implementing PedNet plans and greenbelt acquisition.
Serving my constituents —
- Meet and listen to residents from all parts of the First Ward, from Clinkscales to College and from Broadway and MU to the Business Loop.
- More open civic processes: more inclusive membership on boards and commissions, wider dispersal of information for First Ward resident and insuring easy access to the City Council person for all constituents, including regular "meet your councilperson" opportunities.
- Supporting a West Broadway plan that serves both residents and commuters.
Creating a vibrant downtown —
- Enhance the environment for Columbia's business and cultural community by creative planning and flexible approaches to downtown challenges.
- Developing Columbia's North Central Arts District, including the Orr Street Arts Corridor.
